BA Film and Television

The BA Film and Television course at the University of Reading offers students the opportunity to explore the world of film and television, developing their creative and technical skills in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Professional Facilities

The University of Reading's Minghella Studios provide a purpose-built, industry-standard environment for students to develop their creative confidence and artistic voice. The studios include:

• Three flexible theatre spaces
• A multi-camera and TV studio featuring Arri Alexa film cameras
• A digital cinema
• A dedicated recording studio and mixing suite with state-of-the-art equipment

Year Structure

The course is divided into three years, each with its own unique focus and objectives:

Year One

The first year offers an equal balance of foundational knowledge and supported practice, delivered by the lecturers, researchers, and technicians who lead the core modules.

Year Two

In the second year, students will develop their understanding further, exploring work within and beyond familiar film and television traditions and contexts. Optional modules will allow students to expand their interests and investigate a variety of areas in detail.

Year Three

In the final year, students will enrich their expertise as skilful and knowledgeable creators and critical thinkers, culminating in a collaborative film or TV production, a written dissertation, or an individual creative research project.

Entry Requirements

The typical offer for the course is ABB at A level, with alternative qualifications and entry requirements also accepted, including:

• International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall
• Extended Project Qualification: accepted as part of a formal offer
• BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM
• UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma: Distinction
• English language requirements: IELTS 6.5, with no component below 5.5

Fees

The tuition fees for the course are:

• New UK/Republic of Ireland students: ｣9,790 for 2026 entry
• New international students: ｣25,850 for 2026/27

Graduates of the course have gone on to work in a range of industries, including film-making, production, performance, cinematography, teaching and education, fundraising and development, publishing and media, arts management and administration, advertising and marketing, and film criticism. The University of Reading has a strong track record of graduate employability, with 93.5% of graduates from Film, Theatre and Television in work or further study within 15 months of the end of their course.
