The Graduate School of Agriculture at Hokkaido University offers the Global Education Program for Agriscience Frontiers, designed to provide advanced, interdisciplinary, and comprehensive education and research opportunities that incorporate both the humanities and the sciences. The Global Education Program for Agri Science Frontiers provides a unique combination of study fields such as food, health, and environmental studies. History of the School of Agriculture
The School of Agriculture is the oldest faculty in Hokkaido University's history of more than 140 years. It was first established to assist in opening up the island of Hokkaido as a new frontier. Over the years, it has become Japan's leading university in agricultural sciences and has produced a plethora of eminent alumni.
Master's Program
Admission
- The usual time required to complete this degree is 2 years.
- Admission periods: April or October
Entry Requirements
- Consult with a professor prior to submitting the application
- Hold a bachelor's degree
- Have completed 16 years of education in a foreign country or in Japan
- Have a GPA requirement of 2.30 (3.00 as full score) during the applicant's most recently graduated/expected to graduate program
- Have English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 level taken within 2 years
Completion Requirements
- Obtain 30 credits
- Write a thesis in English based on research conducted during the course
- Do an oral defense in English
- Finish the thesis within 2 years
Doctorate Program
Admission
- The usual time required to complete this degree is 3 years.
- Admission periods: April or October
Entry Requirements
- Consult with a professor prior to submitting the application
- Hold a master's degree or have passed a qualifying examination
- Have completed 18 years of education in a foreign country or in Japan
- Have a GPA requirement of 2.30 (3.00 as full score) during the applicant's most recently graduated/expected to graduate program
- Have English proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2 level taken within 2 years
Completion Requirements
- Obtain 12 credits
- Write a thesis in English based on research conducted during the course
- Do an oral defense in English
- Finish the thesis within 3 years
