Introduction to the Orthophonie Program

The Certificat de capacité d'orthophonie, offered by Aix-Marseille Université, is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become specialized orthophonists. This program focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders, including oral and written language difficulties, voice issues, and other related problems.

Objectives

The primary objective of this program is to train professionals who can effectively assess and treat individuals with communication disorders. These specialists will work closely with medical professionals, particularly the prescribing physician, to provide comprehensive care. The program emphasizes the development of strong pedagogical, communication, and listening skills, as well as excellent elocution and orthography.

Conditions of Admission

To be admitted to the program, candidates must meet the following prerequisites:

  • There is no age limit for admission.
  • Candidates must hold a baccalauréat from the secondary education system.
  • Alternatively, candidates may hold a French title that is recognized as equivalent to the baccalauréat.
  • Candidates with a foreign title of equivalent level to the baccalauréat may be admitted upon decision by the university president.
  • Candidates who have obtained the Diplôme d'Accčs aux Etudes Universitaires (DAEU) or have passed the Examen Spécial d'Entrée dans les Universités (ESEU) are also eligible.
  • For students enrolled in their final year of secondary school, definitive admission is contingent upon obtaining the baccalauréat.

Program Structure

The program is structured into several years, each with its specific objectives and coursework:

First Year

  • AOP1: First year of orthophonist training, consisting of 60 credits and 570 hours of instruction (503 hours of lectures, 150 hours of practical work, and 84 hours of tutorials).
  • AOP1S1 and AOP1S2: The year is divided into two semesters, each with 30 credits.

Second Year

  • AOP2: Second year of orthophonist training, also consisting of 60 credits and 570 hours of instruction.
  • AOP2S3 and AOP2S4: Similar to the first year, the second year is divided into two semesters.

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Years

The program continues with AOP3, AOP4, and AOP5, each year building upon the previous one, with increasing complexity and specialization in orthophonie.

Coursework and Specializations

Throughout the program, students engage with a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Sciences of language
  • Psychology (general, developmental, social, and cognitive)
  • Sciences of education
  • Biology (cellular, molecular, and general)
