Introduction to the Nursing Program
The Nursing program at Utah State University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in nursing, preparing them for eligibility to apply for RN licensure. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) and approved by the Utah State Board of Nursing.
Program Options
Students have three options in nursing education at USU:
- A one-year program to obtain a Certificate of Completion in Practical Nursing, which allows students to apply for LPN licensure and enter the job market.
- An Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Nursing, which allows students to apply for RN licensure.
- A four-year Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) pre-licensure program, which prepares students for eligibility to apply for RN licensure.
Program Details
The BSN program is only available on the Logan campus and is designed for students without previous nursing LPN or RN credentials. The program prepares students who are interested in obtaining a graduate degree in advanced nursing practice.
What You Will Learn
In the USU Nursing Program, nursing theory is correlated with knowledge from the biological, physical, and behavioral sciences, as well as experiences in the classroom. Students learn in nursing skills laboratory and clinical settings such as:
- Acute care hospitals
- Extended care facilities
- Ambulatory clinics
- Home care
- Other health-related environments
Career and Outcomes
A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree prepares students for a job as a registered nurse. Nurses with a BSN are typically given more responsibility, supervisory roles, and higher salaries. The BSN offers a wide range of career options in the nursing field, and RNs with this credential have the ability to specialize in a certain area of nursing and pursue leadership and management roles.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the Nursing Program is a separate process from admission to the University. Enrollment is limited and competitive. Points are allocated based on:
