Diploma of Sustainable Living

The Diploma of Sustainable Living provides a comprehensive and practical education in sustainable practices, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to understand the complex challenges facing the planet and develop innovative solutions.


Overview

This course is designed for individuals passionate about creating a more sustainable future. It will help students learn about sustainability on a local, national, and international level, aligning their studies with what sustainable living means for them. Upon graduation, students will have a better understanding of their connection to sustainability as an individual, consumer, and citizen.


Career Outcomes

As a graduate of the Diploma of Sustainable Living, students will possess new skills, outlooks on living, and a deeper understanding of sustainability in an ever-changing world, complementing their existing career direction. Potential career paths include working in business, government, community development, environmental advocacy, and more.


Course Structure

The Diploma of Sustainable Living comprises 8 units, made up of 2 core and 6 elective units. The two core units are:

Entry Requirements

For domestic students, entry requirements include:


  • Completed TCE (or equivalent)
  • Completed at least one undergraduate unit (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points)
  • Completed VET Certificate III or higher
  • Relevant work and life experience (with a personal competency statement)
  • No prerequisites

Fees and Scholarships

  • Commonwealth Supported Place indicative annual fee: $8,739
  • HECS-HELP loans available
  • 100% HECS tuition fee and SSAF scholarship for eligible domestic students studying in 2026

Duration and Location

  • Minimum 1 year, up to a maximum of 3 years
  • Available to study as both part-time or full-time
  • Online delivery
  • Semester 1, Semester 2, Spring intake

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Diploma of Sustainable Living, students will be able to:


  1. Identify opportunities to contribute to sustainable living by reflecting on the choices they make in their life.
  2. Design practical pathways of transformative change for sustainable living.
  3. Explain the impact their day-to-day activities and decisions have on contributing to the global agenda of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  4. Explain the contribution of disciplinary knowledge of environments, people, or societies to sustainable living.

Practical Experience

The practical experiences of this Diploma are what students make it through their choice of units, taking their sustainable living knowledge out into the world and making a difference. Depending on the units chosen, students could be growing a healthier garden, using sustainable design principles for house renovations, helping maintain a healthy local ecosystem, or engaging in community activities.
