Introduction to Online Conversation Practice

The Online Conversation Practice (OCP) is a series of online sessions organized by Linguapolis, aimed at providing language learners with opportunities to practice their speaking skills in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. The program is designed for highly-educated adults who have basic knowledge of the language and are looking to improve their speaking skills.

Program Details

• The OCP sessions are held twice a year, in November and February-March, with details available on the website in September and January, respectively.
• The program offers sessions in various languages, including Dutch, English, and French.
• Each session lasts for 1.5 hours, once a week, for 10 weeks.
• The sessions are guided by a professional language teacher who is a native or near-native speaker.
• The teacher encourages participants to speak the foreign language and explores the culture, current affairs, and society of the countries where the target language is spoken.

Registration and Eligibility

• Registration for the OCP is done online, and participants must meet the basic requirements, which include being at least 18 years old, holding a secondary school diploma, and having previous knowledge of the language.
• Participants are expected to have some digital knowledge and access to a computer or tablet with an internet connection, camera, and microphone.
• The registration fee includes 10 online sessions, online materials, and the use of the online platform.

Fees and Payment

• The registration fee for new students is 145, while current Linguapolis students, YUFE staff, and YUFE alumni pay 75.
• Payment can be made online or at the secretary's office, and participants must pay as soon as possible to guarantee their place.
• The registration fee includes all materials and the use of the online platform.

Cancellation and Refund

• Participants can cancel their registration until before the start of the first online session, with a cancellation fee of 20% of the registration fee.
• If the program is cancelled due to too few registrations, the registration fee will be refunded in full.
• Refunds are processed within two weeks.

Program Structure

• The OCP is not a language lesson, but rather a conversation practice session.
• The program focuses on speaking and listening skills, with an emphasis on informal conversation.
• Participants are encouraged to speak up and engage in discussions, with the teacher guiding the conversations and providing feedback.

Level Assessment

• Participants are required to assess their own level of language proficiency when registering for the program.
• The level assessment is not strict, but it helps the teacher to place participants in a group with similar language proficiency.

Technical Requirements

• Participants need to have a computer or tablet with an internet connection, camera, and microphone to participate in the online sessions.
• The program uses the Zoom platform for online sessions, and participants will receive login information before the start of the first session.

Attendance and Participation

• Participants are not required to attend all sessions, but they are encouraged to participate actively in the conversations.
• The program is designed to be flexible, and participants can join the sessions from anywhere with an internet connection.

Certificate and Credits

• The OCP does not provide a certificate or credits, as it is not a formal language course.
• However, participants can receive a voucher for a discount on a Linguapolis language course after completing the OCP.
