Introduction to the Organizational Consulting Certificate Program

The Organizational Consulting Certificate Program at The University of Texas at Dallas is designed to equip students with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in today's dynamic business landscape. This immersive learning experience covers all aspects of organizational consulting, focusing on the theories, frameworks, and applications of organizational consulting interventions at the individual, team, and organization levels.


Program Overview

The program is ideal for human capital professionals, technical professionals with consulting responsibilities, leaders seeking a consultative approach to leadership, and staff professionals advising internal business clients. Upon successful completion of the four courses, students can apply 12 academic credit hours towards the Master of Science in Leadership and Organizational Development.


Curriculum

The Organizational Consulting Academic Certificate program offers a comprehensive end-to-end view of the content, practices, methodologies, and skills required to be a successful organizational consultant. The program includes four core courses:


  • OB 6370 Foundations of Organizational Consulting (3 credit hours)
  • OB 6372 The Business of Consulting (3 credit hours)
  • OB 6373 Organizational Consulting: Theory and Practice of System-Wide Interventions (3 credit hours)
  • OB 6374 Organizational Consulting: Theory and Practice of Individual and Team Interventions (3 credit hours)

OB 6370 Foundations of Organizational Consulting

Explores the foundations of organizational consulting and the roles of internal and external consultants. Topics include:


  • The history of consulting
  • Effective project scoping and pricing
  • Proposal writing and contract preparation
  • Adeptly navigating the consulting cycle from client entry and diagnosis to development, implementation, and exit

OB 6372 The Business of Consulting

Explores the challenges of building a successful consulting practice and being an effective organizational consultant. Topics include:


  • Creating a value proposition
  • Building a brand
  • Setting a strategy and implementing an operating model for a consulting practice
  • Consulting competencies, ethical guidelines, and professional development strategies for consultants

OB 6373 Organizational Consulting: Theory and Practice of System-Wide Interventions

Explores theories, frameworks, and applications of organizational consulting interventions at the organization level for human capital consultants and general business consultants. Topics include:


  • Organizational design
  • Job design
  • Process and workflow design
  • Workforce analytics and planning
  • Organizational culture
  • Change management
  • Employee engagement

OB 6374 Organizational Consulting: Theory and Practice of Individual and Team Interventions

Explores theories, frameworks, and applications of organizational consulting interventions at the individual and team levels for human capital consultants and general business consultants. Topics include:


  • Deploying agile frameworks
  • Building technical competency models
  • Acting with social responsibility
  • Linking consulting solutions to business strategy
  • Consulting in sales, marketing, operations, risk management, nonprofit, and public sector organizations

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Three years or more of professional experience (no GMAT or GRE required)
  • Resume of career experience
  • One-page personal statement explaining professional objectives and reasons for pursuing the program
  • One professional letter of recommendation (three letters preferred)
  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

Tuition and Financing

  • Tuition for the Academic Certificate is $10,800 ($900 per academic credit hour)
