Advanced Water Treatment Chemistry (OPEN UNI)

In this course, students will learn about legislation concerning municipal domestic water and wastewater treatment, as well as physical, chemical, and biological unit operations as treatment methods.

Course Learning Outcome

After completing this course, students will:


  • Know legislation requirements and suggestions for municipal domestic water and wastewater treatment in Finland.
  • Understand water and wastewater treatment unit operations, chemical reactions, and phenomena concerning treatment.
  • Have created a comprehensive dictionary regarding municipal domestic and wastewater treatment.

Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course includes exploring domestic and wastewater treatment technologies in Finland and preparing a wide terminology regarding water treatment. Students will also fill out a preliminary knowledge template and provide final feedback on the course. Course work will be submitted to the Moodle workspace, and evaluation will consider the quality of references and the layout of the work.


Target Group

The target group for this course includes students of Chemistry, Process and Environmental Engineering, and those pursuing further education through the open university.
