Introduction to the Global Scientists and Engineers Program (GSEP)

The Global Scientists and Engineers Program (GSEP) is the first international Bachelor of Engineering degree program at the Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo). This program is designed for qualified international students who have little or no proficiency in the Japanese language, allowing them to pursue an engineering bachelor's degree at Science Tokyo.

Program Overview

The GSEP is a transdisciplinary degree program that is not limited to any specific science or engineering field. It is intended for those who seek a bachelor's degree program in engineering, a program taught in English, and a program with interdisciplinary engineering knowledge and skills to solve global problems. The program also considers applicants for a Japanese government scholarship (MEXT).

Program and Department

GSEP students will belong to the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, which includes science, engineering, and management courses. The program is designed to provide transdisciplinary knowledge, essential for scientists and engineers to solve real-world global problems, as well as to acquire intercultural leadership skills and a future vision.

Application and Admissions Schedule

The application period for GSEP is from August 13 to August 22, with the following schedule:

• Preliminary screening results: September 17
• Secondary screening: September 29 - October 24
• Admissions results: November 14
• Enrollment procedures: March 18
• Semester starts: April 1

Application Procedures

To apply for GSEP, follow these steps:

Format

The application form and other required documents must be submitted in the designated format (Word or PDF).

Points to Note When Applying

• English Proficiency Tests: TOEFL iBT, TOEIC L&R, IELTS Academic (paper test or computer-delivered test)
• Applicant Evaluation and Recommendation Form: required from the principal of the applicant's most recently attended high school
• Recommended Use of External Examinations: results of examinations such as EJU, GCE A Level, International Baccalaureate, SAT, and ACT are listed as reference materials for the interview

Application, Enrollment Fees, and Tuition

• Application Fee: JPY 17,000
• Enrollment Fee: JPY 282,000
• Annual Tuition: JPY 635,400 Note: Enrollment and tuition fees are subject to change.

Program-Related Scholarships

• Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship: eight outstanding applicants will be recommended for the MEXT scholarship
• Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship: applicants who wish to enroll in Science Tokyo under a scholarship other than those offered by MEXT may apply for a Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students
• Others: there are scholarships available for outstanding international students at Science Tokyo other than MEXT or JASSO, usually awarded to applicants studying for some period of time after admission.
