Master of Science in Biostatistics Program

The Master of Science in Biostatistics program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai offers students the opportunity to advance their careers at the intersection of data and health.


Program Overview

The program requires 34 credits to be completed in one full-time academic year. It offers two tracks: Theory and Methods, and Clinical Applications.


Admissions Eligibility

  • Theory and Methods Track:
    • At least two semesters of college-level calculus with a grade of B or higher
    • At least one college-level linear algebra course with a grade of B or higher
  • Clinical Applications Track:
    • Actively involved in clinical research and have a degree in medical sciences
    • At least one semester of college-level calculus with a grade of B or higher
    • At least one college-level linear algebra course with a grade of B or higher

Admission Requirements

For admissions to either track, applicants must submit:


  • A completed application and $80 application fee (fee may be waived upon request)
  • Current curriculum vitae or resume
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate programs attended
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • GRE scores are not required but can be submitted as proof of preparedness

Application Deadline and Decisions

Applications are accepted starting in September for enrollment the following year, with a final deadline of August 1. Admission decisions are based on academic record, post-undergraduate professional experiences, and motivation for successful completion of the program.


International Students

Qualified individuals from any country are encouraged to apply. Graduates from foreign colleges or universities who have completed an academic program equivalent to an American bachelor's degree are eligible. Additional requirements include:


  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or equivalent with a score of 100 or higher, if from a non-English-speaking country
  • Transcripts from colleges and universities outside the United States and Canada must be evaluated and translated by World Education Services or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services

Tuition and Financial Aid

The program requires a total of 34 credits, with tuition at $1,250 per credit. Tuition costs may change annually. Accepted applicants who are U.S. citizens or eligible residents may pursue federal loans by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The institution also offers Federal Stafford Loans and a monthly payment plan option.
