Online/Hybrid MSW Program

The Online/Hybrid MSW program is designed for working professionals and students living throughout California.


  • The program offers synchronous online academic courses and an in-person internship field education component.
  • Academic courses are completed online with asynchronous and synchronous sessions.
  • Internships are typically completed in-person during weekdays and regular agency business hours.
  • Students should expect to complete a minimum of 16 hours of internship per week.
  • If admitted, students must be able to study in California and complete their internships in California.
  • Over the summer, newly admitted students are expected to complete readings, a writing preparation skills course, attend mandatory orientation sessions, and attend a field internship fair.
  • The program offers two options: a two-year option and a one-year advanced standing option.
  • The two-year program is a 60-unit program, with 35 units in the first year and 25 units in the second year.
  • The one-year advanced standing option is a 37-unit program.
  • Planned fee increases are as follows:
    • Fall 2024 to Summer 2025: $600 Per Unit
    • Fall 2025 to Summer 2026: $630 Per Unit
    • Fall 2026 to Summer 2027: $662 Per Unit
    • Fall 2027 to Summer 2028: $695 Per Unit
    • Fall 2028 to Summer 2029: $729 Per Unit
  • Fees are expected to increase by 5% in each subsequent academic year starting in Fall 2025.
  • The program requires strong time-management and organizational skills, independent work, and comfort with technology.
  • There is limited availability for the Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program.
