The Single Subject Credential Program at San José State University is designed to prepare students to become transformative educators. The program offers various pathways, including a Traditional Option, Intern Pathway, and Residency Pathway.

Program Details

GPA and Testing Requirements

• The GPA requirement for SAGE applicants is 2.75.
• International transcripts must be evaluated by WES, ACEI, or ECE.
• The evaluation must determine that the degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Program Options + Pathways

The program offers various pathways, including:

• Credential Only: The Traditional Option, which allows students to focus on student teaching at one school or divide their student teaching at different schools.
• Credential and MA in Teaching: The Master of Arts Teaching (MAT) degree program, which prepares students to engage in social justice teaching practices.
• Credential and Critical Bilingual Authorization: The Critical Bilingual Authorization Pathway (CBAP), which prepares teachers to obtain an authorization to serve in dual immersion or bilingual school settings.
• Intern Pathway: A pathway designed for individuals with successful prior experience in lead-teaching in a K-12 classroom.
• Residency Pathway: A yearlong student teaching placement at a single school site, which enables residents to develop yearlong relationships with their students and work with the same mentor teacher for the year.
