The Marketing and Business Analytics program is offered by the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business at San José State University.
Program Overview
The program provides students with the opportunity to synthesize learning from their major and concentration to tackle real-world projects with Business Honors Program partners. Participating client organizations sponsor a team of capable and motivated marketing and business analytics students to work on collaboratively defined strategic projects with measurable outcomes and deliverables.
Honors Program
The Honors Program is designed for students to develop leadership and professional skills while gaining hands-on experience and further honing their technical skills in their chosen discipline. The program offers students the opportunity to:
- Get exposure to leading companies and organizations in Silicon Valley and beyond
- Collaborate with other honors students in both marketing and business analytics disciplines, as well as professionals from sponsoring organizations
- Develop leadership and professional skills while getting hands-on experience and further honing their technical skills in their chosen discipline
- Hear from top leaders in Silicon Valley and around the world throughout the semester
- Network with other peers in their own department as well as in the Sbona Honors Program at large
- Have the opportunity to earn departmental honors by maintaining excellence in their studies and completing a scholarly project
Program Requirements
To be eligible for the Honors Program, students must:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Have completed one semester at SJSU (for transfer students)
- Provide a faculty reference, resume, and unofficial SJSU transcript
- Have completed the introductory course in their major (BUS2 130 for Marketing Majors, BUS2 194A for Business Analytics Majors)
- Write two short essays explaining what they would contribute to and expect to get from the Honors Program
Program Structure
The Honors Program consists of 6 units taken over two semesters. Students who successfully complete the program and maintain a 3.5 GPA in their major will receive departmental honors notation on their diplomas. Students who complete the program but do not meet the GPA or scholarly project requirements will receive a certificate from their department indicating honors completion each semester they participate.
Course Information
The course, BUS2 137H, meets Monday evenings from 6:00 8:45 p.m.
Application Process
The application process has two stages: submission of the application form and a personal interview with program coordinators. Acceptance into the program is not automatic, and the honors committee will decide which students will be invited for an interview. After the interview, a final evaluation (acceptance, waitlist, or non-acceptance) will be made and communicated to the student.
