Internship Placement

The internship placement process is a collaborative effort between students, faculty advisors, and internship mentors. The process involves:


  • Researching internship host site labs
  • Identifying unique interests
  • Attending seminars featuring speakers from host site labs
  • Interacting with guest speakers from potential internship sites
  • Submitting prioritized lists of potential internship labs
  • Participating in interviews with internship mentors
  • Placement in internships based on mutual interests of the student, mentor, and faculty advisors

Program Structure

The program is structured as follows:


Year 1, Fall Semester

  • Identify an internship site
  • Research internship host site labs
  • Identify unique interests
  • Attend seminar featuring speakers from hosts site labs
  • Students interact with guest speakers from potential internship sites and further research internship options on the collaborator's websites

Year 1, Spring Semester

  • Students submit prioritized list of 5 potential internship labs
  • Student cover letters, CV's and other materials are made available to internship PI's
  • SCILL coordinator facilitates interview schedule
  • Students are interviewed at 3 different internship sites
  • Students are placed in internships
  • Decisions on internship placements are made with mutual interests of the student, PI/mentors and SCILL advisors

Year 1, Summer

  • Human ESC Workshop at Stanford
  • Internship start
