Educational Opportunity Program
Program Overview
Educational Opportunity Program
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a division of Student Affairs at San José State University. The program is designed to support personal and academic growth by connecting students to EOP and campus resources, fostering community, and promoting a strong sense of belonging at SJSU.
Program Requirements
All EOP students, new and continuing, are expected to complete their program requirements each semester. These requirements are designed to support personal and academic growth and include:
- Checking email and Spartan Connect daily to stay updated on EOP/SJSU events and deadlines
- Carefully reading EOP requirements, keeping track of deadlines, and paying attention to surveys tied to different requirements
- Emailing the EOP Advisor with any questions or concerns
EOP Engagement Status
To remain eligible for EOP services and the EOP Grant, students must complete all program requirements each semester.

Students who do not meet EOP program requirements in the fall and spring terms will have their EOP status reevaluated at the end of the academic year (spring term) and may be removed from the program at that time.
EOP Grant
An EOP Grant may be awarded to eligible students each semester to assist with college expenses and is part of the overall financial aid award package. To retain eligibility, students need to:
- Be in good EOP standing (complete EOP requirements every semester)
- Maintain full-time enrollment (12 units at SJSU) every semester
- Submit FAFSA/CADA every year for ongoing financial aid eligibility
- EOP Grant eligibility is determined/awarded by the Financial Aid Office
- The EOP Grant is listed as State Educ Opp Grant on the award letter
Spartan Connect - EOP & SJSU Messaging
All EOP messages are sent to the "preferred email" in the MySJSU account, and a copy of the email is saved in (and viewable) in Spartan Connect.
