Program Overview
Introduction to the BS in Aviation Program
The BS in Aviation (BSA) program at San José State University is designed to prepare students for careers in the aviation industry. The program offers four specializations: Aviation Management, Flight Operations, Professional Flight, and Maintenance Management.
Program Specializations
- Aviation Management: This specialization prepares students to work in either a public or private airport or a general aviation company, while also earning a Business Management Minor.
- Flight Operations: This specialization is designed for students who wish to work in the operations side of commercial and private airlines.
- Professional Flight: This specialization prepares students for careers as commercial pilots in airline, corporate, charter, or other flying-related professions. Note that this degree requires FAA certification, which has significant additional costs not included in tuition.
- Maintenance Management: This is a 2+2 program for students from local community colleges who have completed an FAA-accredited Airframe and Powerplant (A/P) License. Community college students can transfer almost all of their aviation maintenance courses and complete their BS degree requirements at SJSU in Maintenance Management.
