San Jose State University Transfer Planning Guide

The San Jose State University Transfer Planning Guide is designed to assist community college students in determining the equivalent courses offered at their institution. Students should complete as many of the lower division requirements as possible prior to transfer.

Lower Division Course Requirements

Community college students should meet with a counselor to determine the equivalent courses offered at their institution. The lower division course requirements for the BFA - Animation/Illustration program include:

Important Transfer Information

Admission to San Jose State University is competitive in all majors. Prior to transferring, students must earn at least 60 transferable semester units, including the CSU four basic skill courses required for CSU admission eligibility. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the following:

1. Lower Division Major Course Requirements: Complete as many of the lower division courses required for the major as possible.
2. General Education Requirements: Complete all the CSU GE Breadth requirements at the community college.
3. Second Course in English Composition: Complete a second English composition course as part of their lower division GE prior to transferring to SJSU.
4. American Institutions Requirement: Complete the American Institutions requirement, which is normally 2 courses and can be taken as part of the CSU GE-Breadth requirements.
5. Graduation Requirement - Physical Education: Complete two units of physical education from Kinesiology/Dance activity courses, unless the major program has an approved PE waiver.

Academic Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in all art/design courses. Failing to meet this requirement will result in the BFA status being changed to the BA Art (Design Studies) program.
