Doctor in Periodontology

Programme Summary

The Doctor in Periodontology programme requires a prerequisite Master of Applied Sciences in Dentistry programme for admission. The next intake for this programme will be in October 2026 for the 2026/2027 academic session.


Duration of Program

The programme duration is 3 years (6 semesters), and it is available on a full-time basis only.

The programme is open to local and international candidates.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission, candidates must:


  • Possess an undergraduate dental degree (DDS, BDS) or equivalent that is recognized by UKM Senate;
  • Possess a Master of Applied Sciences in Dentistry degree, or equivalent that is recognized by UKM Senate;
  • Be registered with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC), or for international students, be registered with the dental regulatory body in another country and be eligible to be granted a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by MDC;
  • Have at least two (2) full years of experience in general dental practice after graduation;
  • Meet the English Language qualification with a minimum score of TOEFL 550 (paper-based, PBT), or 80 (internet-based, iBT), or 213 (computer-based, CBT); IELTS Band 6.0 with the validation of certificate within 2 years from the date of the test;
  • Pass the health check as required by UKM;
  • Pass the interview (either face-to-face or through online communication);
  • Meet other requirements as stated in the UKM Regulation (Postgraduate studies).

Fees

The programme fees are as follows:


  • Malaysian: 210,000 Malaysian Ringgit (MYR)
  • International: 420,000 Malaysian Ringgit (MYR)
