Overview About the IWC Water Leadership Program Scholarships IWC offers a range of scholarships which vary year to year depending on the interests of sponsoring organisations who wish to fund leadership development in the water sector. The IWC has an aim of achieving 50:50 recruitment of female to male participants into the WLP every year as a way of contributing towards gender equity across the water sector. Historically we were around 40:60 female:male participation on average, which improved to 53:47 in the 2024/25 round and 48:52 in the 2025/26 round through our offering of some female only Scholarships as well as open application Scholarships. In 2026 we are aiming to sustain approximately 50:50 gender balance in recruitment by offering 2 female only and 3 open scholarships: 1 x full Water Leader Scholarship for female only application – The Peta Mullin Inclusive Leadership Scholarship 1 x partial Water Leader Scholarship for female only application 3 x partial Water Leader Scholarships for open application The IWC very much welcomes applications from aspiring female and male Indigenous water leaders, whether working in community or institutional contexts. Peta Mullin Inclusive Leadership Scholarship The International WaterCentre is proud to offer a new full scholarship in memory of a Water Leadership Program Fellow, Peta Mullin. Peta was passionate about inclusion and creating environments within which women in the water sector could flourish. The Peta Mullin Inclusive Leadership Scholarship covers $8,990 of the WLP fees and is for female only applicants who demonstrate a commitment for inclusive leadership, particularly with regards to advancing women in the water sector. The Scholarship is also part of IWC’s commitment to fostering gender equity in the Water Leadership Program, and beyond. For the full IWC Water Leader Scholarship (The Peta Mullin Inclusive Leadership Scholarship), the scholarship will cover $8990 (excl GST) of the $10,990 (excl GST) program fees. The recipient or their employer will be required to pay the remaining $2000 (excl GST) fees and contribute towards the expenses associated with participating in the intensives which form part of the program (i.e. travel and accommodation). Eligibility All Scholarships for the 2026/27 IWC Water Leadership Program are subject to the following general eligibility criteria: Applicants must have at least 3 years of work experience in the water industry/sector Be able to communicate clearly in English Applicant’s work supervisors must understand the nature of the program and support their application All Scholarships for the 2026/27 IWC Water Leadership Program are subject to the following general terms and conditions: Full participation in all elements of the program is expected. This includes the ability to travel to Brisbane to physically attend the two face-to-face training sessions from 24th to 26th February and 19th to 20th August 2027. If an applicant is offered a scholarship but fails to formally accept the scholarship (i.e. in writing by email) within 5 calendar days, the scholarship will be offered to another applicant. Overview Context and objectives The successful candidate will investigate the interplay between grain refinement, Fe impurities and casting defects in recycled aluminium alloys, in close collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and a leading aluminium producer. The project aims to address a major challenge in aluminium manufacturing: how to enable greater use of secondary aluminium alloys without compromising castability and performance. Overview Context and objectives The programme aims to further qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics, and administration according to the principles of good governance and to prepare them in a practice-oriented course for their professional life. The scholarship programme is open to candidates from developing countries holding an undergraduate degree to obtain a master’s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance to the social, political, and economic development of their home countries. Knowledge and experience acquired in Germany should enable the scholarship holders to later contribute to the establishment of democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social differences. How to Apply To apply for this Europe scholarship, eligible applicants must follow the steps below to submit their applications: Read the DAAD selection criteria included in the checklist document. Print the checklist, sign it by hand (with place and date), and scan it. Fill in the DAAD Application form once, indicating up to two master’s courses. Do not submit multiple forms. Prepare your curriculum vitae in reverse chronological order, using the Europass template (add a date manually). Explain any gaps of three months or more. Gather certified copies and translations (into English or German) of your degree certificates and full transcript of records (include grading system explanation). Obtain proof of relevant professional experience, internships, or community/political activities – each on headed paper, with an original (not scanned) or digitally certified signature, date, and stamp. Provide proof of English language skills (as required by your chosen course). Get a current written reference from your employer (or from a university lecturer if you are a student) – also on headed paper, signed, dated, and stamped. If you are from India or China, include your APS Certificate. This scholarship is a tuition fee reduction during year 1 and for one-off only. The scholarships will be awarded to the highest performing students starting their University of Birmingham programme in 2026/27 academic year. Who can apply? Please note that students already registered and studying on a programme at the University of Birmingham in the UK, and students applying for MBChB Medicine and Surgery or BDS Dental Surgery are not eligible for this scholarship. Students who are applying for government scholarships are still able to apply for our awards, but if the student does receive a partial or full government scholarship or alternative external scholarship award then they are no longer eligible for this scholarship. In order to be eligible, candidates must: Have received an offer and selected the University of Birmingham as their firm choice for a full-time undergraduate programme starting September 2026. The student must be entering the first year of an undergraduate programme based at the Birmingham UK campus. Be on track to meet or exceed the academic conditions of their offer to the programme. Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes and be able to pay the outstanding tuition fees not covered by the scholarship. Have sufficient funds to cover the full cost of living at the University of Birmingham, plus any visa/travel expenses associated with studying in the UK. Start their studies at the University in September 2026 (the scholarship award may not be deferred). Accept and selected the University of Birmingham as their firm choice by the deadline: 19th July 2026. Upon enrolment in September 2026, pay their net tuition fees for the academic year by 1 November, immediately following enrolment. If a scholarship recipient withdraws from their academic programme of study at the University the scholarship will also be fully withdrawn, and the student will be required to pay any tuition fees owed. The date of the withdrawal (as reported to Taught Student Administration) and the type of programme will determine the amount of tuition fee that will be owed. Eligible countries Open to all nationalities but must be living in (domiciled) Thailand. How to Apply This is a competitive scholarship, please ensure you have fulfilled the eligibility requirements outlined above. To apply for the scholarship, students will need to write an essay outlining “Why Birmingham” in not more than 300 words. Selection for the award will be based on academic performance and the essay. What is the value of the award? The scholarship is £5,000 towards tuition fees (for the first year only) of a full-time undergraduate degree programme at the University of Birmingham UK campus, starting September 2026 When will the scholarship be awarded? Decisions will be announced in late July/early August, and the scholarships will be awarded upon the student’s enrolment in September 2026 as a discount to the tuition fees. If you have not been contacted by the 31 August 2026 or by your course start date, please consider your application as unsuccessful. The University will make its best endeavours to input the scholarship details onto each student’s CAS record for visa application purposes (this ‘note’ will be visible for the UKVI but not the student).
