Clinical Fellowship in Child Public Health
Programme Overview
The Clinical Fellowship in Child Public Health is a 12-month training program designed to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose and address the health needs of children in the field of public health.
Programme Objectives
By the end of the program, candidates should be able to:
- Diagnose the population's health needs in the field of child public health and facilitate the construction of various promotional and interventional activities with input from other public health and medical specialties.
- Develop activities conforming to international standards, ensuring healthy public policies, equity, and accessibility with the most appropriate technology regarding child health.
- Demonstrate evidence-based decision-making, critical thinking, self-directed life-long learning, and evidence-based practice in the child public health field.
- Exhibit effective communication, professionalism, leadership, and sensitivity towards ethical, religious, and cultural values.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the program, candidates must:
- Be an independent and certified public health physician or have completed a recognized public health specialist training (for overseas candidates) with an interest in child health.
- Have completed an attachment in any facilities on 10 areas of family health (Annex 1) or have working experience in managing family health-related programs after specialist training for a minimum of 3 years (for non-Malaysian candidates).
- Submit a current resume with two referees.
- Submit a standing letter from the employer/institution for the program application.
Programme Activities
Candidates will participate in the following activities:
- Plan and evaluate a participatory action research on child health priorities intervention program with related multidisciplinary professionals and agencies.
- Active participation in supervision training, scientific seminar discussions, or journal appraisals at the department.
- Monitor and evaluate using population health outcomes as indicators.
- Record experience activities in a student-led customized logbook.
- Schedule meetings with the supervisor during the fellowship program for progress monitoring.
- Publish at least one technical report/policy paper/one article accepted in a WOS journal.
Certificate of Completion
A Certificate of Completion of training, certified by the Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM, will be awarded to all successful candidates.
Requirements
Candidates must:
- Apply at least 6 months before the intended start date.
- If a non-Malaysian citizen student, obtain a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and fulfill all requirements for TPC.

The program duration is 12 months, and training will take place at:
- Department of Public Health Medicine UKM, 56000 Cheras, Kuala Lumpur
- PULAKEM, Community Health Department UKM, 43500 Beranang
