Programme Overview

The Clinical Fellowship in Nephrology is a comprehensive training program designed to produce nephrologists who are knowledgeable, competent, and committed to their profession and patients.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, candidates must:


  • Hold a recognised basic medical degree and be registered with the Malaysian Medical Council
  • Have a Postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine
  • Have NSR registration in Internal Medicine with at least 3 years of experience in Internal Medicine

Objectives of Programme

The objectives of the program are:


  1. To produce nephrologists who are knowledgeable, competent, and committed to their profession and patients.
  2. To raise the standard of health care especially in the field of nephrology.

Activities/Task

The program includes the following clinical training activities: | Clinical Training | Duration | | --- | --- | | General Nephrology I | 4 months | | General Nephrology II | 4 months | | Haemodialysis I | 4 months | | Haemodialysis II | 4 months | | Peritoneal Dialysis | 4 months | | Critical Care Nephrology | 4 months | | Renal Transplantation I | 4 months | | Renal Transplantation II | 4 months | Optional/elective postings include:


  • Any of the compulsory postings (2-4 months)
  • Advanced Peritoneal Dialysis (2-4 months)
  • Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (DIN) (2-4 months)
  • Renal HPE/Immunology (2-4 months)
  • Research (2-4 months)
  • Paediatric Nephrology (2-4 months)

Requirements

Candidates must:


  1. Apply at least 6 months before the intended start date.
  2. Obtain a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
  3. Fulfil all the requirements for TPC, except for the Letter of Good Standing, which will be forwarded to MMC by UKM.
