Programme Overview
The Fellowship in Cardiology (UKM) is a comprehensive training program designed to produce general cardiologists with detailed knowledge in Cardiology. The program aims to equip candidates with basic competence and experience in performing procedures pertaining to Cardiology.

- Training Centres: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia / Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Jalan Yaacob Latif, Cheras, 56000 Kuala Lumpur, with optional clinical attachment up to 12 months in an accredited/recognized center overseas.
Eligibility and Objectives
- Eligibility: Recognized postgraduate training in Internal Medicine with interest in Cardiology (MRCP/ Masters equivalent)
- Objectives of Programme:
- To produce general cardiologists with detailed knowledge in Cardiology.
- To produce general cardiologists with basic competence and experience in performing procedures pertaining to Cardiology.
Activities and Tasks
- Candidate Responsibilities:
- Perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist, including running clinics, doing ward rounds, and performing simple procedures.
- Diagnose and manage common cardiology diseases.
- Participate in emergency cardiology, cardiac care, and outpatient services.
- Interpretation of ECGs, with a minimum of 500 cases.
- Supervision and interpretation of stress tests.
- Interpretation of holter monitoring, with a minimum of 100 cases.
- Basic training in echocardiography, including physical principles underlying ultrasonic image formation and Doppler techniques, with a minimum of 300 cases.
- Basic training in left and right heart catheterization.
- Basic training in cardiac pacing, including inserting temporary pacing wires and performing at least 10 procedures.
- Participation in continuing medical education, including seminars, tutorials, and clinical meetings.
- Training in cardiac imaging, including CT coronary angiogram, cardiac MRI, or basic nuclear studies.
- Passing written and viva examinations held prior to finishing the program each year.
- Assisting in as many procedures as possible and performing common procedures independently before the final examination.
- Maintaining a log book and an audit of performance.
- Regular meetings with the course director.
- Participation in all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
- Encouragement to conduct research during training and present at local/international conferences.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will receive a Certificate of Completion of Training certified by the Course Director and the Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM.
Requirements
- Application Timeline: Apply at least 6 months before the intended start date.
- Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC): Obtain a TPC from the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), ensuring all requirements are fulfilled.
- Application for TPC: Forwarded to MMC by UKM, except for the Letter of Good Standing.
