Program Overview
Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology
The Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology is a training program offered by the Histopathology Unit, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), which is accredited for training by The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA).
Programme Overview
The program is designed for registered Specialist Anatomic pathologists or trained medical doctors who have not completed RCPA training or wish to obtain a fellowship with the RCPA. The trainee will need to select a supervisor from the Histopathology Unit during the training period.
Objectives of Programme
The objectives of the program are:
- To produce certified specialist anatomic pathologists eligible for RCPA fellowship programme.
- To introduce trained medical doctors to the basics of anatomic pathology.
Activities/Task
The candidate will be required to perform the following tasks:
- Perform all anatomical pathological activities at the level of a specialist or medical registrars.
- Perform cut ups or gross examinations, report frozen sections and surgical cases.
- Request and report histochemical stains or any other ancillary studies such as electron microscopy.
- Request and report molecular studies such as in situ hybridisation (fluorescence or double dual) or PCR studies.
- Perform clinical autopsies (Specialist Pathologist may be exempted from this requirement).
- Report cytological cases (gynae and non gynae including fine needle aspirates).
- Present surgical cases in clinicopathological meetings.
- Present articles or technical reports in journal club meetings, publish articles and present oral papers or abstracts in international conferences or seminars.
- Write a report on an audit activity or a complex clinical case. A write up of a formal research proposal is highly encouraged.
- Exercise the standard quality management and laboratory safety of the Histopathology Unit, HCTM at all times.
Requirements
The requirements for the program are:
- Apply at least 6 months before intended start date.
- Obtain a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
- Fulfil all the requirements for TPC.
- Priority will be given to candidates with some experience in peripheral or body interventions.
Certificate of Completion
A Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.
Duration of Training
The duration of training is 12 months, full-time or part-time (or duration as recommended by the RCPA).
Training Centres
The training center is Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Jalan Yaacob Latif Cheras 56000 Kuala Lumpur.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for the program are:
- Specialist Pathologist or trained medical doctors.
