Program Overview
Offshore Wind Energy Program
The Offshore Wind Energy program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, including renewable energy systems and technologies, cutting-edge wind turbines, and offshore wind farms. This method of energy generation offers several advantages over traditional land-based wind farms, and countries are increasingly investing in offshore wind energy to meet their renewable energy targets.
Program Overview
In this program, students will:
- Discover renewable energy systems and technologies, cutting-edge wind turbines, and offshore wind farms
- Explore legislation and permitting challenges
- Study trends in offshore wind energy in the USA and around the world
Modules
The program consists of two modules:
Module 1: Introduction to Offshore Wind Energy
This module introduces students to renewable energy systems and technologies, state-of-the-art wind turbines and offshore wind farms, legislation and permitting issues, and USA and global offshore wind trends. Students will be introduced to:
- Renewable Energy Systems
- Wind Turbines
- Wind Farms
- USA Offshore Wind Energy Scenarios for the Future Virtual reality experiences will introduce commuting to and climbing up offshore wind turbines. This learning module will culminate in groups designing offshore wind projects from environmental, economic, or engineering perspectives.
Module 2: Careers in Offshore Wind Energy
This module provides students with an overview of renewable energy careers from four offshore wind professionals. Careers showcased will include:
- Support Services (port services, site manager, supply chain)
- Planning and Development (Engineering, monitoring, permitting, finance, public relations)
- Construction (Engineers, trade workers, construction managers)
- Operations and Maintenance (Water transportation, sensors, performance assessment)
Program Details
No previous knowledge is required to enroll in this program. There are no prerequisites or expected knowledge of the industry; just an interest in learning about wind energy.
