RN to BSN Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the RN to BSN program, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • An associate's degree in nursing or diploma in nursing
  • Active, unencumbered Texas RN license or ability to secure a license in the first semester of enrollment
  • 3.0 GPA or higher in the required 60 hours of nursing prerequisites
  • 3.0 or higher in the required science prerequisites
  • International applicants must submit one official copy of their TOEFL score

Prerequisites

Applicants must complete at least 40 prerequisite hours, including 16 hours from the science prerequisites, to be considered for admission.


Admission Decisions

The university reviews RN to BSN applications on a rolling admissions basis. Admission decisions are made based on multiple factors, including academic performance and other admission factors.


Pre-enrollment Requirements

Accepted students must complete outstanding prerequisites, immunization screening, immigration status clearance, Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification, clearance of the mandatory drug screening test, and mandatory criminal background check.


Essential Skills for Nursing

Nurses must be able to demonstrate cognitive skills in critical thinking and logical/analytical thinking, as well as psychomotor skills, including fine motor dexterity, physical strength, coordination, and proper body mechanics. Observational skills are also required, such as the ability to hear within the normal decibel range, the ability to read English in regular to extra-fine print, and the ability to palpate/auscultate.
