Course Description
This course provides an opportunity for students to gain practical, hands-on experience in Pharmacy Informatics. The project should reflect a substantial effort and competency of synthesis in informatics developed through the course training, addressing core competencies of the pharmacy informatics system by working through a problem of the student's choice. The selected problem should be discussed and approved by a faculty mentor.
Course Objectives
- Assess and describe current knowledge of pharmacy informatics as a basis for the scientific method, use of theory, and knowledge.
- Compare and contrast sources of evidence, theory, and knowledge for pharmacy informatics practice.
- Utilize problem-based learning methods to explore pharmacy practice challenges.
- Develop and present a pharmacy informatics project plan or a systematic literature review.
Expectations
The synthesis project should be based upon the combined efforts of library database search, fieldwork, and mentored research approved by the mentor(s). Expectations of the class include the presentation of the conclusions from the project in a written manner for academic dissemination as a conference abstract/poster.
