Introduction to the MSRT Degree Advancement Program

The MSRT Degree Advancement Program is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in clinical practice, education, and research. The program offers two Master of Science education tracks: Entry-Level and BS/BA RRT to MSRT Degree Advancement.


Program Overview

  • The Entry-Level Program requires no prior healthcare experience and is held on-campus.
  • The program has a completion rate of two years, allowing graduates to quickly start their career in respiratory therapy.
  • The Degree Advancement program is designed for practicing registered respiratory therapists and is 100% online.
  • After completing 20 graduate credit hours of respiratory therapy courses, students can choose from three different leadership tracks:
    • Operational
    • Education
    • Research
  • This 2-3 year online program enables practitioners to continue providing healthcare to their patients while earning an advanced degree.

  • The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston Department of Respiratory Therapy received the 2024 CoARC Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award.
  • The department also earned the American Association for Respiratory Care Apex Recognition Award, which distinguishes programs for their commitment to excellence in professional development and education.
