Admission

Admission Application Instructions

Applying for admission to the graduate program in Communication Studies is a two-step process:


  1. Complete the Online Application
    • Fill out and submit the Graduate Program portion of the application.
    • An email will be sent with a link to setup an account and finish the application.
    • Complete the rest of the application fields and submit.
  2. Request Official Scores and Transcripts
    • Request official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (excluding University of Montana).
    • Transcripts may also be transmitted electronically through the National Student Clearinghouse.

Application Requirements

As part of the application process, applicants must:


  1. Self-report all colleges and universities attended (including grade point average).
  2. Obtain three letters of recommendation, preferably from college instructors who have directly evaluated the applicant's academic performance.
  3. Upload a one-page statement outlining the reasons for seeking a master's degree in Communication Studies.
  4. Upload a writing sample: any academic essay or report that the applicant is especially proud of.
  5. Upload a resume.
  6. Pay the application fee.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall: Priority will be given to complete application packets received by February 1. Complete application packets received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.
  • Spring: Priority will be given to complete application packets received by November 1. Complete application packets received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis.
