Admissions

The philosophy department requires the following materials in the admissions package:

• A personal statement describing the applicant's reasons for pursuing graduate study in philosophy at The University of Montana.
• Three letters of recommendation.
• A writing sample that demonstrates the applicant's philosophical abilities. A sample with environmental content is preferred, though not required.
• Official transcripts from the applicant's undergraduate institution(s).
• A 1-2 page resume highlighting certificates, awards, presentations, and other biographical experiences that demonstrate the applicant's skills and interests.

Funding

The program offers funding to students, with a deadline of February 1st for fall admission. It is noted that funding is only offered once a year for new fall admissions, and there are limitations on reapplying for funding or deferring a funding offer.

Environmental Ethics Graduate Certificate

The University of Montana also offers a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Ethics, providing students with specialized knowledge in this area.
