The College of Education offers a range of academic programs, including the Teaching and Learning Doctoral Program.
Teaching & Learning Doctoral Program
The Teaching and Learning Doctoral Program is a 90-credit degree that includes a primary area of study, a supporting area of study, a core of research and foundation courses, and electives.
Program Requirements
- The program requires a minimum of 90 credits, including a master's degree and dissertation.
- The 90 credits include:
- A primary area of study (30 credits)
- A supporting area of study (20 credits)
- A core of research and foundation courses (38 credits, including a maximum of 10 credits for the dissertation)
- Electives (2 credits)
- Students complete a written comprehensive examination in addition to a dissertation.
Core Courses
The core courses can be incorporated within the primary or supporting area, except for C&I 699.
Foundations of Education
The Foundations of Education component consists of 9 credits, with a choice of 3 courses from:
- EDU 504: History of American Education
- C&I 506: Comparative Education (offered in spring, even years)
- EDU 508: Early Childhood Principles & Practices
- EDU 510: Development & Learning Sciences
Technology
The Technology component consists of 3 credits, with the following course:
- EDU 515: Computer/Technological Application in Education
Research
The Research component consists of 26 credits, with the following courses:
- C&I 694 (1 credit): Doctoral Seminar (offered in autumn)
- C&I 486 (3 credits): Statistical Procedures in Education (offered in autumn and spring)
- OR - EDLD 519 (3 credits): Measurement and Analysis of Educational Data (offered in summer, online in spring, odd years)
- C&I 520 (3 credits): Educational Research (offered every semester)
- C&I 618 (3 credits): Educational Statistics (offered in spring)
- C&I 620 (3 credits): Qualitative Research (offered in autumn)
- C&I 625 (3 credits): Quantitative Research (offered in spring)
