The Creative Writing B.F.A. program requires:


General Degree Requirements

  • Completion of the University of Montana General Education Requirements
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.00 in all work attempted at the University of Montana-Missoula
  • Courses taken to satisfy the requirements of a major, minor, or certificate program must be completed with a grade of C- or better

Course Requirements

  • Core Courses:
    • LIT 110L: Introduction to Literature
    • Two of the following courses: LIT 236L, LIT 246L, LIT 291
    • Two of the following courses: CRWR 210A, CRWR 211A, CRWR 212A
    • LIT 300: Literary Criticism
    • LIT 327L: Shakespeare
  • Upper-Division Electives:
    • Two LIT courses (6 credits) at the 300- or 400-level
    • 3 credits of the following courses: Any 300- or 400-level Literature (LIT) course, Any 300- or 400-level Irish Studies (IRSH) course, Any 300- or 400-level non-workshop Creative Writing (CRWR) course, Any 300- or 400-level Linguistics (LING) course, Any 300- or 400-level English Teaching (ENT) course, Any 300- or 400-level Writing (WRIT) course
