The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Counselor Education is designed to provide advanced training and specialization in the field of counseling.
Program Requirements
- Formal programs of study for the Ed.S. degree are designed in cooperation with an assigned advisor.
- The Ed.S. requires an additional 18 semester credits of study beyond the previous master's degree, with a total of at least 64 credits including the previous degree.
- Students must complete a program of study that closely mirrors one of the nationally accredited master's degrees in School or Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
- A supervised internship in the specialty area is required, totaling 6 credits (equivalent to 600 supervised hours), with mandatory attendance in internship class (COUN 585).
- Students must complete a final project of 1-4 credits, which may include a literature review, pilot study, or a project such as a new program in a school or evaluating a mental health treatment approach.
