Program Overview


M.Ed. in Educational Leadership - Higher Education Administration

The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Administration is designed to prepare students for leadership and service positions in colleges, universities, community colleges, government agencies, research agencies, educational associations, and other post-secondary educational settings. Graduates have pursued careers in admissions, student services, student records, intercollegiate athletics administration, campus facilities, university business offices, institutional advancement, institutional research, and other administrative and support services in higher education.

Our mission is to prepare intellectually curious, socially just higher education leaders and scholars committed to anti-racism and other equitable practices to improve post-secondary teaching and learning environments.


Curriculum

Full-time master's students in the Higher Education Administration program complete a 36 semester hour program designed to be completed in two years with an internship completed between the first and second year. Part-time students typically take three years to complete their program hours.

    • History of Higher Education
    • Leadership & Change in Higher Education
    • Higher Education Organizations and Contexts
    • Social Justice in Praxis in Higher Education
    • Educational Research for Practice
    • Student Development Theory
  • Professional Focus:
    • Each student, with assistance from an advisor, creates a professional focus by combining 9 credits (three courses) that develop knowledge and skills in a specific professional context.
  • Culminating Experiences:
    • Master's project: Each student prepares and presents an original project related to their area of professional focus
    • 140-hour internship in a higher education setting
