The Music program is part of the College of Arts & Sciences and offers various ensembles, including:

  • Botetourt Chamber Singers
    • Director: Dr. Jamie Bartlett
    • Description: The Botetourt Chamber Singers is a vocal ensemble that contains some of the university's best vocal talent.
    • Membership: Membership is open to undergraduates by audition.

About the Botetourt Chamber Singers

The Botetourt Chamber Singers was formed in 1974 by Dr. Frank T. Lendrim. Originally an auditioned subset of the university choir, it now stands as a separate entity and affirms some of the university's best vocal talent. The ensemble performs in and around Williamsburg for various events, including Grand Illumination and caroling in Colonial Williamsburg, as well as many university-sponsored events.

Performances and Tours

The Botetourt Chamber Singers have been invited to perform at various events, including the Virginia State Music Educator's Association Convention and the VA All-State Choral event. They have also toured internationally, performing in countries such as Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, and South Africa.

Repertoire

The ensemble sings a wide variety of choral literature, from the Renaissance through contemporary works, including a full concert of jazz and Broadway standards. They have released three CDs, including "Something Olde, Something New", "Sing We Joyous, All Together", and "All My Heart This Night Rejoices".

Annual Gala Concert Fundraiser

Each February, the Botetourt Chamber Singers hold an annual Gala Concert Fundraiser in the Kimball Theater.
