Introduction

The Bachelor of Dental Science is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and expertise necessary to excel in the field of dentistry.

Awards

The course includes the following awards:

  • Bachelor of Dental Science

Availability

The Bachelor of Dental Science (4409DS) is available on campus in Orange. Availability is subject to change, and students are advised to verify prior to enrollment.

Normal Course Duration

The normal course duration for the Bachelor of Dental Science is 5.0 years (10.0 sessions) when studied full-time. Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study, as not all courses are offered in full-time mode.

Admission Criteria

Selection for entry to the Bachelor of Dental Science is a two-stage process. Applicants are first selected for interview based on their UMAT (Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admissions Test) score (for domestic students) or GPA (for international applicants or current CSU students). Following the interview, applicants are selected for an offer based on their interview outcome. When ranking applicants for an offer, UMAT/GPA may be used to rank applicants with identical interview scores.

The following selection criteria are adopted when assessing applicants at interview:

  • A demonstrated interest in, and understanding of, rural and regional Australia, oral health inequalities, and dental practice within these regions.
  • High-level academic ability.
  • The capacity to communicate effectively.
  • Evidence of skill in manual dexterity and spatial sense.
  • Evidence of the understanding of teamwork and motivation to become a dental practitioner.
  • Evidence of community involvement.

Each year, at least 50% of places will be set aside for applicants who have a significant rural background or who are Indigenous applicants. Applicants who wish to apply for one of these places will submit an additional form detailing their eligibility for this pathway.

English language requirements also apply, with an Academic IELTS of 7.0 and no score below 6.5 in each of the individual skill areas, or a qualification deemed equivalent.

Credit

Standard CSU Credit rules apply.
