Program Overview
Graduate Diploma of Ornithology
The Graduate Diploma of Ornithology is a postgraduate program offered online, with a normal course duration of 1.0 year (2.0 sessions) for full-time students and 2.0 years (4.0 sessions) for part-time students.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- A completed Bachelor's Degree (or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent) in a relevant discipline related to Ornithology from a recognised University or other tertiary education provider.
- A completed Graduate Certificate in Ornithology.
- Relevant industry or professional Ornithology experience of at least five years, demonstrated by a detailed resume. Additionally, applicants must meet the standard English Language Proficiency requirements.
Credit and Graduation Requirements
Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Ornithology will be given credit for the 4 subjects (32 points) completed in that course. To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
Course Structure
The Graduate Diploma in Ornithology consists of an additional four subjects (32 points). Students undertake two core subjects and choose two others from a restricted subject list.
Core Subjects
The core ornithology subject list includes:
- BIO437 Captive Husbandry and Reintroduction of Birds
- BIO439 Behavioural Ecology
Restricted Elective Subjects
The restricted subject list includes:
- BIO521 Restoration Ecology
- ENM413 The Principles and Practice of Field Ecology
- GEO513 River Hydrology and Geomorphology
- SPA431 GIS 1: Geographic Information Science Foundations
Enrolment Pattern
The enrolment pattern for the program is as follows:
- A further 4 subjects (32 points), with at least 2 core subjects (16 points).
- Year 2 Session 1: BIO437 Captive Husbandry and Reintroduction of Birds, Restricted Elective
- Year 2 Session 2: BIO439 Behavioural Ecology, Restricted Elective
