Program Overview


Master of Islamic Studies

The Master of Islamic Studies is a postgraduate program that includes the following awards: Master of Islamic Studies (MIslStud). The program is available online through the United Theological College.


Availability and Duration

The program is available with the following duration options:


  • Full-time: 2 years (4.0 sessions)
  • Part-time: 4.0 years (8.0 sessions)

Admission Criteria

Applicants for the Master of Islamic Studies must meet the following requirements:


  • A completed Bachelor's Degree (or AQF equivalent)
  • English Language Proficiency: Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements

Credit and Articulation

  • Students who have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Islamic Studies or the Graduate Diploma of Islamic Studies or equivalent will be awarded credit into the Master of Islamic Studies.
  • The Master, Graduate Diploma, and Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses, and credit is given in each higher-level course for the subjects completed in the lower level.

Graduation Requirement

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.


Course Structure

Subjects have a value of 8 points unless otherwise stated. The program requires students to complete:


  • Four core subjects (32 points)
  • Four 8-point restricted electives (32 points)
  • Four 16-point restricted electives (64 points)
