Master of Paramedicine (with Specialisations)
The Master of Paramedicine (with specialisations) includes the following awards:
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (Critical Care)
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (Extended Care)
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (Critical Care)
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (Extended Care)
- Master of Paramedicine (Critical Care)
- Master of Paramedicine (Extended Care)

The program is available online at Bathurst. Availability is subject to change, and students should verify prior to enrolment.
Normal Course Duration
The normal course duration for each award is as follows:
- Master of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Full-time 1.5 years (3.0 sessions), Part-time 3.0 years (6.0 sessions)
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Full-time 1 year (2.0 sessions), Part-time 2.0 years (4.0 sessions)
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (with specialisations): Full-time 0.5 years (1.0 sessions), Part-time 1.0 years (2.0 sessions)
Admission Criteria
The admission criteria for each award are as follows:
- Master of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Students must have completed a 3-year undergraduate degree in paramedicine. Admission can be directly at the Master level or follow from the completion of the Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations).
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Students must have completed a 3-year undergraduate degree in paramedicine. Applicants with extensive industry experience and practicing as intensive care paramedics will also be eligible to enter the course.
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (with specialisations): Students must have completed a 3-year undergraduate degree in paramedicine. Applicants with extensive industry experience and practicing as intensive care paramedics will also be eligible to enter the course.
Credit
The credit arrangements for each award are as follows:
- Master of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations) will be eligible for 64 points of credit.
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations): Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (with specialisations) will be eligible for 32 points of credit.
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (with specialisations): No special arrangements apply.
Articulation
The Master, Graduate Diploma, and Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses, and credit is given in each higher-level course for the subjects completed in the lower.
Graduation Requirement
The graduation requirements for each award are as follows:
- Master of Paramedicine (with specialisations): To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.
- Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine (with specialisations): To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
- Graduate Certificate in Paramedicine (with specialisations): To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.
Course Structure
The course structure for each award is as follows:
Graduate Certificate
Students complete two core subjects:
- APS402 Foundations of Advanced Paramedic Practice
- APS403 Populations with Special Needs And choose one area of specialisation and complete two subjects from that area.
Critical Care Specialisation
Choice of 2 subjects:
- APS501 Advanced Cardiac Care
- APS502 Advanced Respiratory Care
- APS503 Advanced Medical Care
- APS504 Advanced Trauma Care
Extended Care Specialisation
Choice of 2 subjects:
- APS506 Principles of Extended Care
- APS507 Systematic Extended Care
- APS508 Extended Care Clinical Management
- One subject from the Restricted Elective Pool
Graduate Diploma
Students must complete the requirements for the Graduate Certificate and then complete:
- Session 30: APS509 Extended Care Skills (extended care stream) or APS505 Critical Care Skills (critical care stream)
- Session 60: APS404 Advanced Care Practicum
- The remaining subjects not completed from their area of specialisation.
Masters Level
Students must complete the requirements for a specialisation in the Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine and then complete:
- HLT505 Research Methods in Health Science A
- HLT506 Health Masters Proposal
- HLT508 Health Masters Project (16 points) or two subjects from the Restricted Elective Pool
