Program Overview


Master of Arts (Islamic Studies Research)

The Master of Arts (Islamic Studies Research) prepares graduates to apply an advanced body of knowledge in one of the Islamic Studies discipline areas of Qur'anic Studies, Islamic Theology, Islamic History, and Islamic Law, including understanding of recent developments in the field, together with advanced knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the discipline, for research and scholarship and as a pathway for future learning.


Course Overview

The course allows the student to develop and demonstrate technical and creative skills in their chosen area and to design, use and evaluate research and research methods, and to develop skills in analysing and synthesising complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to contemporary theological and social problems. Students also develop valuable academic research skills and present coherent and sustained arguments and present research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Admission Criteria

  • Applicants should hold:
    • a Master of Islamic Studies from Charles Sturt University with a Distinction average plus evidence of research; or
    • a Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Honours) with Class 1 or Class 2 Division 1 from Charles Sturt University; or
    • an award from another accredited tertiary institution, accepted by the Research Advisory Committee as equivalent to one of the above awards, and/or have demonstrated in study or professional performance potential to undertake research at a Master degree level.
  • Admission to candidature is subject to approval by the Research Advisory Committee.

Credit

  • This is a research degree. There are no special credit arrangements for this degree.

Graduation Requirements

  • To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

  • Each student will be allocated one of the following research subject codes and will enrol in that subject for the period of their candidature:
