The Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge, analytical, and cognitive skills in emergency management theory and practice. This program enables students to apply their knowledge and skills through industry and community-based project work, involving the critical review and analysis of emergency management theory and practice in focused areas such as planning/preparedness, response, and recovery.

Admission Criteria
Applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria, which are considered equivalent to a four-year degree:
- Successful completion of a three-year degree in emergency management, risk management, or an allied discipline area.
- At least five years of experience in an industry related to this field of study.
- Evidence of continuing professional education and development.
- Evidence of emergency management role and responsibilities within their industry, organisation, or community.
Credit
- No special credit arrangements apply.
- Note: There will be no credits granted, usually, with enrolments for this course, but each credit application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Articulation
The Master, Graduate Diploma, and Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses, and credit is given in each higher-level course for the subjects completed in the lower level.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.
Course Structure
This is an exit point only course, consisting of:
- One 16-point core subject:
- EMG401 Risk Management in the Emergency Management Context (16 points)
- EMG402 Contemporary Practice in Emergency Management (16 points)
- Unrestricted elective subjects totalling a maximum of 16 credit points.
