DOH415 Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry
This subject will focus on the integration of the specialist discipline areas of paediatric dentistry and orthodontics. Students will gain the requisite skills in diagnosis, treatment planning and case selection for general practitioner level paediatric and orthodontic care as well as an appropriate understanding of the referral pathways essential for optimal paediatric and orthodontic specialist treatment. This subject is designed to provide students with full development of skills necessary to provide more complex and comprehensive clinical care for adults, teenagers and children as they further develop their knowledge of growth and development from earlier years.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of specific behavioural and management strategies required for the provision of optimal oral health care for children
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and the treatment skills required for the provision of dental treatment for children
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of specific behavioural and management strategies required for the provision of optimal oral health care for children
- be able to demonstrate continuing development of clinical competency relevant to the management of dental treatment for children
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of and an understanding of basic orthodontics with relevance to general dental practice, with particular focus on diagnosis, case selection and referral of patients
