RSC301 Asthma Management
This subject will explore the current National Guidelines for the diagnosis, assessment, management, and care of people with Asthma, focusing on priority population groups and the tailoring of health practice and education to the needs of the individual. The subject also explores and reviews the scientific literature that governs clinical practice in this field. Assessment includes case-based exploration of the content, reflection, and a literature review focusing on an area of interest for the student.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss the definition and epidemiology of asthma in an Australian (or country of residency) context
- be able to relate the current Australian recommendations for diagnosis and management of asthma to its pathophysiology and symptomology
- be able to discuss the impact and management of risk and triggers for asthma
- be able to describe the pharmacological basis of respiratory medications as well as the classification system and delivery devices used in asthma management
- be able to identify and evaluate the management strategies used in the care of people with asthma
- be able to discuss and evaluate the strategies you would use to plan and deliver one-on-one or group education sessions
