Program Overview


MRS290 Medical Radiation Science Practicum 1

This subject commences the detailed development of skills that underpin professional practice in both the public and private setting. The theoretical modules of this subject are designed to develop the necessary knowledge base for students to successfully enter the workplace. Foundational to these modules is the first module, which is designed to develop cultural competence in students in providing healthcare to Indigenous communities.


Subject Description

In this subject, students complete a series of supervised medical radiation science practice experiences in their chosen specialisation for a total of 12 weeks. Practicum experience provides students with the opportunity to apply current knowledge and skills and further build on these skills. Students will build on their cultural knowledge to develop skills of cultural sensitivity and competence. Students will also develop and consolidate critical evaluation and reflective practice skills. To pass this subject, students are required to pass each placement, including all related assessment tasks and competency tasks. Failure of any individual placement block equates to failure of this subject.

This subject contains a 60-day Compulsory Workplace Learning component. Student placement in a clinical department in the area of their specialisation.
