The Masters Dissertation in Ageing and Pastoral Studies is a research-based program designed to enhance academic and professional development of students working in the field of ageing and pastoral studies. Enrolment in this program is restricted to students enrolled in the Master of Arts (Ageing and Pastoral Studies).
Incompatible Subjects
Students who have completed THL467 are not eligible to enrol in this program.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- demonstrate a high order of skill in planning and implementing a research project
- demonstrate an advanced ability to communicate and contextualise an ageing and pastoral studies project
- validate awareness and sensitivity to ethical issues arising from the dissertation in ageing and pastoral studies
- produce a thorough, carefully reasoned dissertation which demonstrates an in-depth understanding of a specific area of knowledge or enquiry
- demonstrate effective reference to the literature
Syllabus
This program will cover the following topics:
- management of a research project
- literature reviews and surveys
- collection and analysis of data
- evaluation and interpretation of analysis
- written presentation of research findings
- professional issues associated with research, including ethics and supervision
- preparation for publishing findings in appropriate journals
