Program Overview


MRS590 Medical Radiation Science Clinical Placement

This subject is designed to enable students to develop their clinical knowledge and skills in their specialised area. Students will undertake the clinical placement at a site that will provide the clinical experience in their specialised area of interest. The duration of the placement will be variable and is dependent upon the students' previous experience in their specialised area and this will be determined by the subject coordinator in conjunction with the clinical supervisors at the clinical site.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:


  • be able to demonstrate the complexities of clinical practice in their specialised area
  • be able to maintain a portfolio identifying their learning during their clinical placement experiences
  • be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the clinical need and requirements within their specialised area
  • be able to demonstrate clinical skills appropriate to a specialised practitioner in their specialised area
  • be able to review and synthesise appropriate literature related to their specialised area and to the broader medical radiations and health-care sector
  • be able to demonstrate how to apply national and international research findings to their specialised area in the clinical setting.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:


  • Clinical indication and requirements in the specialised area,
  • Patient issues and safety in the specialised area,
  • Clinical practice in the specialised area,
  • Clinical skill development in the specialised area,
  • Evidence-based practice in the specialised area.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 30 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component. The duration of workplace learning is variable, dependent upon the students' previous experience in their specialised area. However, the minimum duration of clinical placement for each student will be 30 days. Students are required to undertake workplace learning in their specialised area and gain skills / demonstrate competences within the specialised area.
