Program Overview
AGB165 Agribusiness Systems
This subject introduces students to the holistic nature of agricultural industries from both an Australian and a global perspective. A supply/value chain approach is taken as a way of studying the components of and the interrelationships between resources, functions and processes and consumer products of agribusiness systems. Emphasis is placed on identifying issues affecting the sustainability of agribusiness systems in a dynamic global environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to describe an agricultural value chain in a simple diagrammatic form from farm to retail
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the differences between vertical and horizontal integration in supply chains
- Be able to identify the various forms of information and associated communication flows that occur along a value chain and describe their purpose
- Be able to identify the key principles of marketing and supply chain management
- Be able to describe how Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems are integrated throughout an agricultural value chain
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of value chain analysis, the concept of market failure and identify examples of organisations established to support the functioning of an agricultural value chain
- Be able to identify the key non-financial drivers of a successful agricultural business
- Be able to identify, analyse and recommend a response to an external issue impacting an agricultural value chain
