- be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the principles of strategic planning in border management
- be able to identify and articulate solutions to selected issues and problems in the border management context

This subject will cover the following topics:
- Overview of border management: the concept of border management and historical perspective
- Agency roles and responsibilities: Customs, Immigration, Quarantine & Agriculture, Police, Other agencies
- Border management environment: Regulatory environment, Physical environment, Information and environment, control environment
- Border management principles and techniques: Operational Risk Management and Intelligence gathering, analysis & dissemination, compliance management, use of information and communication technology
- Border management approaches: Integrated Border Management, Coordinated Border Management, and Collaborative Border Management
- Contemporary and emerging issues: Global issues, Regional & local issues
