Program Overview

SECU Public Fellows Internship Program

The SECU Public Fellows Internship Program was developed in partnership between the UNCG Career and Professional Development (CPD) and Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE), thanks to funding from the SECU Foundation. This program allows UNCG students interested in civic engagement a paid opportunity to build capacity with local organizations and agencies that support our communities.

Requirements for SECU Public Fellow Interns

As an intern, you'll benefit from a meaningful professional experience with a local agency or organization, while giving back to a community in North Carolina. Interns are eligible to receive up to $4,900 for the summer. To be considered, the following requirements must be met:

  • Be a resident of North Carolina
  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at UNC Greensboro in good academic standing during the semester of application, and academically eligible and planning to return for the semester following the internship
  • Have an approved resume
  • Be able and willing to complete a minimum of 300 hours (30-40 hours a week), not to exceed 400 hours between May and August
  • Have access to transportation necessary for commuting to and from the internship site and internship responsibilities
  • Be willing to complete all community site hiring requirements as needed (e.g., background check)
  • Be available and willing to participate in internship trainings related to the program
  • Be open to being featured on social media and giving presentations speaking about your experience

Intern Application Process

The application process for the SECU Public Fellows Internship has three stages:

  • Stage 1: Apply for acceptance into the SECU Public Fellows Program
  • Stage 2: If accepted, submit a brief video interview responding to several questions
