Program Overview
Introduction to the Summer Arts and Design Intensive Program
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro's School of Art is pleased to announce the 13th year of the Summer Arts and Design Intensive program. This summer, the program will offer a one-week residential art program for up to 100 high school artists.
Program Details
The Summer Arts and Design Intensive program will encompass a range of art forms, including:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Printmaking
- Sculpture
- Photography
- Graphic design
- Animation
- Filmmaking
The program will be led by the art faculty from the UNCG School of Art and the Department of Media Studies, who will mentor the student artists. The staff will also include professional artists, art educators, and preservice art teachers.
Program Structure
The program will include:
- Faculty-led studio sessions that combine traditional techniques with contemporary experimentation
- Enrichment activities, including artist talks, visits to art galleries, and a career seminar on the arts
- A concluding student art exhibition, to be held at the Gatewood Gallery in the School of Art building
Eligibility and Application
The program is open to students in grades 8 through 12. The online application window will open on February 20. The application process is entirely online, and parents or guardians may apply on behalf of their child.
Program Dates
The Summer Arts and Design Intensive program will take place from Sunday, July 12 to Friday, July 17, 2026. Future dates for the program are:
- 2027: Sunday, July 18 to Friday, July 23
Morning Studio Classes
The program will offer the following morning studio classes:
- Drawing
- Printmaking
- Mixed Media Painting
- Photography
- Animation
Afternoon Studio Classes
The program will offer the following afternoon studio classes:
- Various Topics in Drawing
- Sculpture
- Graphic Design
- Storytelling in Animation
- Fundamentals of Filmmaking 101
Evening Open Studio
The program will offer two options for evening open studio sessions:
- Option one: The SADI staff will supervise student artists during open studio sessions and assist them with their independent projects.
- Option two: The preservice art teachers at UNCG will create and present engaging art lessons to the campers each evening to foster creativity.
