Program Overview
Master's in Speech-Language Pathology
The Master's in Speech-Language Pathology program at UNC Greensboro has been preparing clinicians to serve children, youth, and adults with communication disorders for nearly 50 years. The program requires 66 credit hours, consisting of 34 credits in academic coursework and 32 credits in clinical coursework, providing a lifespan approach for advanced study of language, speech, swallowing, non-speech communication systems, and hearing in persons of all ages.
Program Distinctions
- The program is ranked #2 in the state of North Carolina and ranked #2 nationally as one of the 15 Best Value Masters in Speech-Language Pathology programs.
- The M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and provides academic and clinical instruction sufficient for the Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) in speech-language pathology awarded by ASHA, licensure in the state of North Carolina, as well as the Department of Public Instruction.
- The UNCG chapter of the National Speech-Language Hearing Association was recently awarded Silver Chapter Honors.
- The National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) Student Affiliate Chapter of UNC Greensboro was founded in 2021.
- The department offers Speech and Hearing clinical services to the community through the Speech and Hearing Center located on campus.
Graduate Student Experience
During the first year, all clinical experiences are supervised by UNCG faculty on the UNCG Campus or at other sites in the Greensboro area, including:

After Graduation
Students graduating with a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology obtain employment as speech-language pathologists working in a wide variety of clinical, educational, and community settings.
